What to Expect on an Off-Road Driving Experience Day in Cardiff

Booked an off-road driving experience at 4x4 Driving School, or thinking about it? Here is how a day with us at Ty Rhiw Farm, Taffs Well, near Cardiff, works from the moment you arrive.

No driving licence needed

You do not need a driving licence to drive off-road with us. It is a great first taste of 4x4 driving for beginners, and just as much fun if you have driven for years.

Arriving at the farm

Follow the signs up to the 4x4 yard through the farm yard. Horses cross it, so please keep to 5mph in 1st gear the whole way. The farmer is very strict on this, and it keeps everyone safe.

Safety briefing, then a demonstration

Every session starts with a short safety briefing slideshow. Then one of our guides shows you how it is done with a demonstration in the car, so you know exactly what to expect before you take the wheel.

Out on the course

Our guides sit with you as you drive the muddy tracks, hills and obstacles on our off-road course. You go at your own pace and build confidence as you go.

What to bring

  • Old clothes and sturdy boots, because it gets muddy

  • A waterproof coat in the colder months

  • A smile. Most people leave grinning

Ready to give it a go? Have a look at our experience days and packages, or get in touch with any questions. We look forward to seeing you at Ty Rhiw.
